Today I wanted to share my views and research on this interesting subject that most people have very less information about. There are many benefits of drinking water, whether our purpose is to stay healthy, have beautiful skin, stay disease-free or lose weight, the first thing we are advised to do is ‘drink lots of water’. But do you have any idea what H2O really does to make us healthy or lose weight? Don’t worry, here’s everything you need to know in order to start your journey of weight loss by just drinking water.
Burn More Calories with Water
A German research conducted in early 2000’s indicated that consumption of water increases the rate of calories burnt by a person. 30-60% American adults who attempt to lose weight tend to up their water intake in order to lose weight faster. A study of overweight women who were advised to increase their water intake to an extra liter resulted in losing extra 2 kg in a span of 12 months. This is impressive because these women did not make any other changes to lose weight such as exercising or going on the diet. They lost 2 kg simply by increasing their water intake. So, essentially you’ll be burning about 23 calories with every 0.5 liters water consumption. Moreover, studies have shown that you can burn even more calories with cold water as the body uses extra calories to warm the water to match our body temperature.
Drinking Water Before Meals
A study conducted on older adults who drank water BEFORE each meal showed that they lost 2 kg over a span of 12-weeks. A similar study was also conducted on a group of overweight and obese candidates and the results showed that the group lost 44% more weight compared to the other group who did not consume water before each meal. This means, consuming water BEFORE every meal can reduce appetite and decrease calorie intake resulting in weight loss by drinking water.
How Much Water Should You Drink
Weight loss by drinking water is not only beneficial but also the most health and effective way to reduce belly fat. Many experts suggest that an adult can lose and maintain his/her weight by drinking 2 liters of water everyday which includes drinking a glass of water before every meal. That being said, 2 liters isn’t sufficient for individuals who sweat a lot or exercise regularly as they need more water to stay hydrated. Basically, it won’t matter how much you drink as long as you stay hydrated and keep your thirst in check.
Speed Up Your Weight Loss by Drinking Water
Water is 100% calorie-free which is why it helps so much in staying healthy by managing weight naturally. If you plan on losing weight by drinking water, you should replace all the sugary drink with plain water. Sugar can intervene your weight loss journey, so it’s a good idea to stick to water until you reach your desired weight.
