Whether you are traveling solo or with your significant other, I will be guiding you for the top things to do in Rome. This city is rich in art, architecture, and magnificent masterpieces ready for visitors to cherish. Of all my trips to Europe, Rome was the place I was more eager and excited to visit.
There is great truth to the phrase “Rome was not built in a day”; You’ll need much more than a day to tour this ancient city, go figure. I was in Rome for 5 days, 3 days of serious sightseeing, and two relaxing days wandering around the beautiful streets of Rome. A week will give you more than enough time to discover the astonishing historic sites Rome has to offer.

1. Visit the Colosseum

First, we have to check out the Colosseum, one of the most iconic landmarks in Rome. This should be number one in your top things to do in Rome. The Colosseum offers visitors the chance to tour the amphitheater where Roman gladiators fought the most intense battles. With the ability to host approximately 50,000 Roman spectators, the Colosseum Museum Rome was home to entertainment for the Roman Empire. While here, venture around the ruins of the Colosseum and explore one of the 7 wonders of the world.
2. Go to a New Country – Vatican City

Although it is the smallest country in the world, Vatican City is rich in history and cultural landmarks. You don’t have to be religious to enjoy all the things Vatican City has to offer. 6. Relax at the Spanish Steps

During my more relaxing days I was able to roam through the Spanish Steps Rome area. Here, visitors gather around for a relaxing evening. If on a solo journey, by all means, talk to people around you as there are plenty of solo travelers who like to come here to socialize. If you are on a couple’s vacation, take a moment to sit down have some gelato and enjoy the beautiful sights of Rome.
7. Eat, Pray, Love

One of the top things to do in Rome is to visit the historic landmarks the city has to offer. However, when in Rome do what Romans do; eat some of the best pasta the world has to offer. Pizza, Pasta, Gelato, Limoncello you name it! Because of the amazing options, It is no doubt as to why Italy is home to one of the most celebrated and savory meals enjoyed worldwide. You have to enjoy freshly made pasta at Italy’s capital.
8. While in Rome, Roam the streets (Pun intended)!

Rome is home to a rich history, culture and one of the biggest empires in Ancient history. When in Rome, there is no doubt that one of the top things to do is to explore the streets of Rome. While walking the streets of this historic city, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection with all its beautiful corners. One of the most popular streets to visit is Via del Corso, an endless street home to the authenticity of modern Roman culture. While exploring, make sure you look out for art displays and hot looking Roman Cops (For my single ladies – I see you)! It is no wonder as to why Via del Corso is one of the best places to wander around this enchanted city.
9. Go on a Shopping Spree (window shopping perhaps)!

Rome is home to one of the biggest fashion capitals in the world. Therefore it comes to no surprise that Rome boasts brand names like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hermes, and Burberry. While roaming, make sure you visit some local designers for a complete Roman fashion experience. Local Italian designers can give you unique European designs for some fashion inspiration. While here, I found out about the Freddy WrUp Pants and I can honestly say that I get asked about them every time I wear them. Needless to say, I do feel quite good when I casually get to mention that I got them at a designer boutique in Rome!
10. Watch the Sunset at Gianicolo Hills

Grab a bottle of wine, some takeout pizza, and enjoy the beautiful sunset at Gianicolo Hills. While at the top of the Gianicolo Hills you can get a complete view of the city. Get a panoramic city view including the Pantheon, St. Peters Basilica, Altare Della Patria, and other beautiful sights. While here, enjoy the mesmerizing views of the historic center!
